Raising Global Citizens: Unity in the Classroom

One of the most repeated themes in the Baha'i writings is the oneness of humankind — the idea that, despite our differences in background, language, or circumstance, we are fundamentally one human family.

For a school, this isn't an abstract idea; it shows up in very concrete ways. It shows up when a new student is welcomed warmly instead of excluded. It shows up when children from different family backgrounds sit together, share their lunches, and become friends. It shows up when a classroom discussion about a distant country becomes a lesson in curiosity rather than judgment.

At Ridvan Academy, we try to nurture this outlook early. Even young children can grasp the idea that people everywhere share the same basic hopes — to be safe, to be loved, to learn, and to belong. Helping students internalize this early gives them a foundation for becoming thoughtful, compassionate members of an increasingly connected world.

We don't claim to have this perfected. But it's a value we hold onto deliberately, in a small school, in a small town, believing that the habits of unity learned in childhood ripple outward for a lifetime.
