The Baha'i Vision of Education: Educating the Whole Child
One of the central themes in the Baha'i teachings is the idea that every human being is, in the words of Baha'u'llah, "a mine rich in gems of inestimable value." Education, according to this view, is the process by which those gems are brought to light.
This means that education is never only about academic achievement. It is equally concerned with the development of character: honesty, trustworthiness, kindness, and a sense of service to others. At Ridvan Academy, we try to hold both of these goals together — helping students build strong academic skills while also nurturing the qualities of heart and character that will serve them throughout their lives.
The Baha'i writings also place enormous emphasis on the equal education of girls and boys, teaching that mothers are the first educators of the next generation and that a society cannot progress while half of its members are denied access to learning. This principle has shaped our own commitment to making education accessible to every child in our community, regardless of gender or family circumstance.
We believe that when education addresses both the mind and the heart, it produces not just capable individuals, but people who are prepared to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of their communities.
